Parent Involvement Policy

Northside Elementary School believes in and supports the Clinton Public School District (CPSD) Title I Parent Involvement Policy.  The CPSD policy states, “parental involvement should be a vital, integral part of the school’s Title I program” and “shall be based on school-home cooperation, collaboration, and communication.”  Therefore, Northside has developed, jointly with parents, this school-parent involvement policy and a school-parent-student compact outlining shared responsibilities for student achievement.

Northside will convene an annual meeting in August/September to provide parents timely information about the school program and staff, funding, the curriculum in use, assessment methods and proficiency expectations.  The Northside Parent Involvement Policy and the school-parent-student compact will be reviewed and distributed to parents of participating students.  The school will send written communication(s) to parents informing them of the annual meeting and encourage them to attend.

At Northside, communication with parents will be ongoing and timely.  Parents will receive clear, verbal and /or written communications throughout the school year describing and explaining the curriculum in use, assessment tools and results, school performance profiles, and parent involvement activities/resources.  Parent workshops/meetings, parent/teacher conferences, frequent progress reports, weekly take-home folders, and daily behavior/ homework logs are specific ways the school will keep parents informed.  (Some communications, when possible will be provided in languages other than English.)

Northside administration and faculty understand the importance of parent involvement and work continuously toward improving home-school-community relations.  At the annual meeting and back –to-school assembly parents become educated about academic standards and student achievement requirements.  Parents will be given numerous opportunities to participate and to make suggestions about decisions regarding the education of their child.  Parental input will be solicited at every gathering and through surveys and evaluation forms.

Northside’s support team and Parent Coordinator are available to assist parents with monitoring and improving their child’s school achievement.  School administrators gather the support team when needed.  The Parent Coordinator maintains the Parent Resource Center and works closely with school staff as liaisons between school and home.  The coordinator makes appropriate learning materials available to parents and schedules flexible workshops and training to enable parents to help their child succeed in school.  At least 1% of the Title I annual budget is allocated to parent resources and is determined by parent evaluations and surveys.  Parents will also provide input on how funds are spent.

To evaluate the Title I parent involvement program, the school’s planning committee that includes parents, community members, and school staff will meet in May.  The committee will review the current year’s policies and practices and decide the agenda for the next school year.

Any concerns or complaints about the Parent Involvement Policy should be sent to the Principal.

Northside partnered together with the City of Clinton in an effort to help their fundraising efforts to construct the "Fallen Comrade" memorial to honor Clinton veterans. The city is partnering with Dr. Sam Gore at MC to erect a statue at the Clinton Visitor's Center in the likeness of Homer Ainsworth and Joe Albritton.  In addition to a "Penny War", Northside students also participated in a school-wide essay contest on the importance of veterans.
